Shaking Things Up

Greetings from the great, green woods of Lost Lake Scout Reservation near Clare, Michigan. Lost Lake Scout Reservation has been my summer home for many years as I have worked here as an area director and other positions on our summer camp staff. This year I am teaching the Photography and Cinematography merit badges and am still responsible for creating the end of the week slide show for the camp. Its a great place to see students (scouts at camp) in a different way.

In photography we teach the scouts that to get a “good” picture it is necessary to hold the camera steady while pressing the shutter release button. During the first week I had a scout who discovered that this isn’t always true. He found that he could shake or move the camera while (or shortly after) he pressed the button, he could get some neat effects.

This is one example of his photography.

I wonder how often do we allow students to shake things up and be more creative?
